OUR STORY
In the year 2020, a group of us came together and sought out a program called Seeds For Change which is run by Girls Inc. San Diego. As high school students all across San Diego County, we participated in the ten-week educational program to learn and educate ourselves on social and political issues that impact our communities. Our group focused on ways to learn and understand societal injustices around class, gender, and race. Our group also focused on unconscious bias and how to shift our thinking to be life-long learners. We believe in inclusivity and the fact that diversity of people and ideas enriches our world for the better. Our initiative, The Voices of the Unheard, will be our platform to help our community learn through this inclusive lens. Through this initiative, we invite our community to our effort to make San Diego a better place to live for everyone.
Mission Statement:
We are standing for and with the community for the betterment of all those who feel their voices are being held down by the oppressors. While we educate and raise awareness on topics of a difficult nature, we will offer ways and routes to change the world and society around us through inclusive and progressive attempts. We stand tall and proud as the voices of the unheard.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Social justice work can be intimidating to jump into, but here are some steps to get started.
Learn - Educate yourself and others about important issues at present. Gaining insightful knowledge and understanding broader perspectives are vital to learning.
Apply - Find ways to turn your knowledge into something that can be given back to your community.
Stand - This is your time to take a stand for what you believe in. This is the time to turn your education and application and make sure that genuine change is occurring.
Invite - Finally, invite friends, peers, and others to join in on your change. The more people who become educated on topics of such a difficult manner, the easier it will be for our society to mend into the position we need it to be.
